Project Overview

Schuff Steel supplied, fabricated, and erected 1,740 tons of structural steel for the project, including architecturally exposed structural steel (AESS), buckling-restrained braces (BRBs), decking, stairs, and railings. The project presented complex challenges, particularly with erecting massive 120-foot trusses weighing over 140,000 pounds in a tight downtown footprint with limited laydown space.

Schuff Steel overcame these constraints through a series of strategic, field-driven solutions:

  • Truss sections were assembled directly on an elevated slab rather than off-site, reducing transportation logistics and costs.
  • The team leveraged a 330-ton MLC300 crane capable of hoisting the large assemblies without the need for additional equipment, expediting installation and minimizing disruption in the urban setting.
  • To support this process, shoring towers were installed atop the parking garage, eliminating the need for costly foundations and maximizing use of existing structures. This required precise load distribution planning and close coordination with structural engineers to ensure safety and stability.

Schuff Steel’s ability to adapt to evolving site conditions, maintain seamless communication with other trades, and execute creative solutions with efficiency and accuracy underscored their central role in delivering the project safely, on schedule, and under budget.
